Strand Hostel, by Barefoot, is just a short walk from Hiriketiya Beach and offers the same welcoming atmosphere with a little more space. Barefoot Ahangama puts you close to the town’s cafés, restaurants, nightlife and many of Sri Lanka’s popular surf spots.
Our hostels are designed for travellers who want more than just a place to sleep. Expect comfortable beds, air-conditioned rooms, lockers, welcoming social spaces and regular activities that bring people together. From social dinners and beach volleyball to surf sessions, yoga and sunset drinks, there are plenty of opportunities to make new friends along the way.

Strand shares the same social vibe and community feeling as Barefoot, but welcomes a wider mix of travellers. Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or with up to 3 friends booking together, Strand offers a bigger setting while keeping the same friendly, social atmosphere.
Meet Strand Hostel, the newest addition to the Barefoot family and our third hostel, just 50 metres from Hiriketiya Beach. The name Strand means “beach” or “shore” in several languages, making it the perfect fit for a hostel this close to the ocean. 🌴
Created by the team behind Barefoot Backpackers, Strand brings the same friendly atmosphere and community feeling to a different setting. Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or with a few friends, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet other travellers and feel part of the hostel community.
